THE
POOR ALEX…
A UNIQUE THEATRE & CABARET IN THE HEART OF THE ANNEX
The
Poor Alex is situated at 296 Brunswick Avenue, just steps south of
Bloor St. It is in the heart of Toronto's "Annex” district.
The theatre’s location has long been hailed as one of the best
in the city. The building itself is over 100 years old and has been
a theatre for about 50 of those years - with one time owner being none
other than “Honest” Ed Mirvish. Executive producer Valerie
Morgan carries on the historic theatrical tradition that is The Poor
Alex.
The
main theatre has recently been renovated, and is a fully functioning
air conditioned theatre venue, with permanent raked seating of 142.
A wide range of productions are housed in the theatre each year, produced
by The Poor Alex itself, and some of Toronto’s top theatre production
companies.
In
January 2003, The Poor Alex launched a brand new 2nd floor fully licensed,
air conditioned cabaret space. This intimate music, comedy and small
theatre venue has a seating capacity of 110. |
